The Lake and the Grand Site of the Salagou Valley
Located in the center of the Hérault department and reservoir of the Salagou dam, Salagou lake is a currently classified and protected site. It is a place made quite simply thanks to its biodiversity but also by its geology. The red earth that we find around the lake makes it a place with a very special palette of colors and if we can think that the Salagou lake has been there for a long time it is nothing because it about 50 years ago, when we created this reservoir.
When you go there it is the perfect opportunity to practice one of the possible activities on site such as mountain biking, hiking or even horse riding. In addition to these various means of discovering the places, it is also possible to practice one of the various water sports to which the Salagou lake is particularly suitable.
You can for example practice sailing, catamaran or paddle and pedal boat.

Hike the Salagou lake
There are many ways to discover Salagou lake and its surroundings. You can opt for the bike of course but the best way to enjoy the natural beauties around you is hiking. Taking the time to observe everything there is to discover while exercising seems an ideal option.
Salagou lake offers 3 unmissable hikes, starting with Les Capitelles du Salagou. This walk lasts 4 hours 10 minutes for a total distance of 12.55 kilometers. This is a loop that takes place from the plateau and takes you to discover the Salagou lake. During your journey you will have the chance to discover the capitelles of Salagou, scattered between the vines. The start is on a forest track located 1 kilometer before the dam.
The Tour du Salagou lakeis also a hiking route that will take you into the heart of the Languedoc hinterland in order to discover Salagou lake as closely as possible. The hike in question is 8h40 for a distance of 27.02 kilometers, which makes it a difficult circuit with a point of maximum height at 274 meters.
Finally, the Pays du Salagou lake circuit offers an average difficulty over a total distance of 11.97 kilometers and a duration of around 4h25. During this tour you can admire the lake and its geology as well as all the beauties that the place has to offer.
The Salagou lake benefits from a privileged geographical situation which allows to practice many nautical activities on the spot. Whether you love thrills or just want to enjoy an original moment of relaxation on or by the water, there is something for everyone.
The Salagou outdoor center, located at Route du Lac in Clermont-l’Hérault, offers several nautical activities such as pedal boating, stand up paddle boarding, sailing, catamaran or canoeing. For each of these nautical activities it will take between 10 (for the pedal boat) and 17.5 euros (for optimist sailing) per person, all for half a day. The VTC / Canoe adventure course is only accessible for a full day and at a price of 39.5 euros per person.
The Salagou Nautical Base offers canoe and paddle rides accompanied by a guide to discover the surroundings and the history of the places around you. The duration of the tour is 2 hours and the price is 19 euros per person. You can also opt to rent an electric boat without a license to live a unique experience while discovering the Salagou lake with family or friends. The price here is 39 euros for 1 hour and 225 euros for an entire day.
