The Landes lakes

In the Landes, swimming has two very distinct flavors: an ocean flavor on the Silver Coast with more than 100 km of fine sandy beaches, and a milder flavor on the lake side. Focus on 5 large Landes lakes where children can splash around with their feet in the water and swim in peace, and where you will enjoy practicing water sports with your family during your camping holiday in the Landes. And if that weren’t enough, trails and cycle paths bypass the lakes of the Landes to get lost on foot or by bike in the forest.

Pond of Biscarrosse

Formed over 4,000 years ago, the Biscarrosse and Parentis lakes are distinguished by their very large dimensions (3,600 hectares), their hydrobase, their seaplane museum, their nautical bases and their equipped beaches. You will find several picnic areas to recharge your batteries after your kayaking trip or your introduction to windsurfing. The small pond of Biscarrosse, to the south of the lake, is a place very frequented by fishermen.

Soustons lake

The Soustons pond, covering an area of 380 hectares, is a listed site where varied landscapes coexist: pine forests, marshes, islets, streams (Soustons current) … Hiking, cycle tourism, idleness, picnic lakeside picnics, windsurfing and other water activities can easily be added to your program. If you want to trade the lake for the ocean, the surf spots of Vieux-Boucau and Messanges are approximately 5 km away.

Lake Hossegor

This marine lake near the Atlantic Ocean has a special charm due to its location and its elongated shape. If the tide is low, you will see it practically empty. It is therefore better to consult the sailors if you intend to swim on the beach of Chênes Lièges, one of the equipped beaches. Stand-up paddleboarding is one of the most popular activities on Lake Hossegor. Free time and lack of ideas? Perfect your golf swing located on the edge of the lake or walk along the canal that leads to the ocean beaches. You will come out on the Capbreton estacade, a 190m long wooden jetty that juts out proudly towards the ocean.

Mimizan Lake (Aureilhan Pond)

Lake Mimizan in Aureilhan is bordered by beautiful trails and sports facilities. West side (ocean side), you will find several facilities such as a golf course, a tree climbing park (Landes Adventure Park) and a nautical base (Cercle Nautique de Mimizan). Sailing, canoeing, rowing, stand up paddle, electric boats: the activities on offer are suitable for children and beginners. On your stroll, you may pass Woolsack Castle, a former hunting lodge built over a century ago. A day at the Aureilhan pond is also an opportunity to stroll through one of the most beautiful gardens in France, the flowered promenade.

Leon Lake

Lac de Léon is located partly in a protected area, the Courant d´Huchet nature reserve. The site is perfectly equipped to accommodate families and athletes: cycle paths that connect the lake to the ocean, picnic areas, children’s games, nautical clubs (sailing, windsurfing, pedal boats, boat tours, canoeing kayak), minigolf… Safe swimming on the equipped beach and the presence of several shaded areas is a very appreciable added value in high season. Fishing is permitted in certain areas of Lake Léon. It is important to know the areas open to anglers before casting your hook.
